Moonlight & Magnolias, Day 1

or The Non-Sexual Orgasm
Can we look out through a stranger’s eyes and leave our judgements all behind?
Today was the first day of the Moonlight & Magnolias conference. The first day is usually pretty light…you check in, attend a Q&A session, then go to the Welcome Cocktail Reception.
Nothing overly exciting to report from today. I’m definitely getting sick, though. I feel like my head is stuffed with cotton, I’ve got a sore throat and a runny nose. Isn’t that just lovely?

Here and now, I make my pledge to see this through
Not exactly the greatest news…I’m not recovering and I’m not lazy. It seems I’m coming down with something. SoundGuy hasn’t been feeling well this week, and MiniMe stayed home from school today.

You never run away when you can stay and fight today
Isn’t it funny how just one day can throw your entire schedule — your whole frame of mind — off?
To Entertain While I’m Gone…

I’m off to enjoy Journey in Huntsville! (Get your minds out of the gutter…I’m going to enjoy their music. Sheesh.) Anyway, while I’m gone, I figured I’d give y’all another Messed Up Tune to play with. This one’s pretty easy, but since I happen to love this song, I figured I’d use it anyway.

Yesterday’s Fast Draft Goal: 20 pages
Yesterday’s Fast Draft Pages Written: 19 pages
Late post today; MiniMe had a soccer game this morning. She played well — I was one proud mom.
Didn’t meet my Fast Draft goal yesterday, but once again, I’m not disappointed. I was still struggling with the story, and still feeling there wasn’t enough plot. As I sat writing on the outline, I had another epiphany. Made a change to how my heroine Rebecca became a widow, and suddenly I’ve got another subplot to weave in. One that will not only impact Rebecca’s character arc, but Jackson’s as well.

Yesterday’s Fast Draft pages written: 15 pages
I didn’t make my Fast Draft goal, but I’m not disappointed with my output. Writing yesterday was like pulling teeth, like squeezing blood from a stone, like [insert tired old cliche of choice here]. It was just hard. Damn hard. When I checked in with my team at 3pm yesterday, I only had four pages done, and I really didn’t expect to be able to do more than ten.

I wanna be strong, but I don’t wanna be alone tonight … I’m only human, and you have a hero’s face. Right here in your arms is the safest place.

Yesterday Fast Draft Pages Written: 22 pages
Yesterday was kind of a weird writing day for me. I started out raring to go, but then something caught my eye. Something non-writing related. And I became absolutely obsessed. I can’t explain it. It wasn’t my normal type of procrastination where I switch from thing to thing, an underlying pang of guilt for not writing coloring everything I do. No, this was more of a compulsion. It blocked out everything else. And then all of a sudden, I looked up at the clock and it was almost time to pick MiniMe and LittleDude up from school.

Take your mind, unlock it. You all know we can do it if you put your mind to it.
My first day of writing in Candace Havens’ Fast Draft workshop through Romance Divas went pretty well, all thing considered.
Although Candace suggested a goal of 20 pages per day, I set mine at 15 pages for yesterday. My plan was to get my pages done while the kids were at school, then work on more of my outline/loose synopsis in the evening. It didn’t work out that way.
