Learning Can Be Fun

Yes, it’s a cheesy title, and a bit too Barney the purple dinosaur, but it’s true. I’m still more or less motivation-deprived, and I spend most of my days a bit fatigued, so this’ll be a quick fly-by post.
Lately, if I’m online, I’m either researching things for SR or I’m researching homes. And I’m finding the things I’m researching for the story fascinating. I’ve still got a long way to go and lots to learn, but at least it’s not boring.

A quick nod to Elton John for the post title, which, believe it or not, does not refer to what I hope is my return to the world of writing. To the end of my “vacation”, more realistically known as my dry spell. At least, not directly.
Last night, as SoundGuy and I watched Batman Begins, I suddenly had an Idea. The movie, except for the repeated phrase Conquer your fears, actually had nothing to do with the Idea. It was one of those things that popped in without reason. It was just suddenly there.

Thank You, Oprah
by Lynn Daniels on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at 5:25 pm
Not too long ago, I started watching Oprah again in the afternoons. I’m not sure why I did, I hadn’t watched in years. But for some reason, I turned the television on again and started watching. And the episode I saw made me cry.
It was about child predators. Oprah told the stories of a few children who were kidnapped, molested, and killed. She also talked about how so many child predators still walk the streets today, and how it’s become her mission to change things.
With every breath in my body, and with you by my side, we are going to move heaven and earth to stop an evil that’s been going on far too long.
– Oprah
I applaud her. This episode showed the photos of a number of wanted predators. It gave their descriptions. And Oprah made a promise. She’s working with law enforcement, and if the FBI tells her that you were instrumental in the capture of any of those fugitives, she will personally give you a $100,000 reward.
A week later, the men in two of those photos were captured. And Oprah made good on her promise.
Information about the predators still at large is available on her website, and her reward offer continues. Go to her website. Look at the pictures. Memorize the faces. And if you see one of those men, call the FBI.

A big WOO HOO
to Yankeebob, who correctly guessed yesterday’s Messed-Up Tune as Nazareth’s “Love Hurts”!

I think Autumn has finally arrived!
The temperature was in the 40s when I took the kids to school this morning. The scent of wood-burning fire has been hanging in the air. And the Halloween costumes are safely hidden in the back of the truck.

I’m a little late today…we’ve been our house-hunting. I wanted to get something in tonight, though, so here’s another messed up tune for your enjoyment.
(BTW, the post title is Another Messed-Up Tune tranlated using our Messed-Up Tune method.

Anyway, here goes…

This is another one of my “45 mph” shots — I pointed the camera lens out the window and got this one.

Bad Lynn. Bad! Bad!
by Lynn Daniels on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 3:38 pm
I’ve been a bad girl on a few different levels. First, SoundGuy, being the occasional kind man that he is, opted to let me sleep in yesterday. I won’t tell you how late I slept, except to say it was late!
Late-late. So late, it pretty much killed my morning. By the time I got up, there were errands to run and kids to pick up from school. Then last night, I had another Southern Living party to go to, and I spent money. Not saying how much, but it was more than I should have. Of course, this means I got absolutely nothing done with the writing, although I have managed to do my “pleasure read-thru” of my CPs chapter. So at least I can say I got that crit started.

The new fridge is finally here. I now have two refrigerators in my kitchen and am faced with the chore of transferring everything from the old one to the new one. I didn’t have time to do that yesterday, but it’s on my list for today.
Anybody know what happened to the Word Meter site? I just noticed my meters aren’t showing up, and the site is coming up “not found”.
