Week in Review

But just the good stuff, I promise.

First, I have actually made headway with NaNoWriMo. Not as much as I’d like, but I did it. However, it does look like I’ll have to put it aside — and that I’ll explain later. At least I know I was capable.

Yesterday was a HUGE anniversary for me. A day known in my household as THE BIG DEAL. And one that makes SoundGuy turn to me every so often and blurt I’m so proud of you. Yesterday at 12:00pm, I was officially a non-smoker for 18 months.

Yup. 18 months ago yesterday, I quit smoking. Eating, however, seems to be another matter…

It looks like Christmas has come early for me this year. Actually, Christmas comes early for me every year — SoundGuy has trouble keeping secrets from me. And what that means is when he buys my Christmas gifts, he’s so excited about it that I either find out about it immediately, or I get the present immediately. This year it was both.

My Christmas this year included a camera — the new Canon 40D, which is the modernized version of my 20D. We’d previously decided Canon had made enough improvements to warrant considering making the leap, but SoundGuy went beyond considering and actually spent the $$$. He’s very proud of himself, because he knows he’s bought me a gift I’ll use the heck out of.

He also bought me a place to store my pictures. My previous external drive filled up pretty quick, and SoundGuy wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again. Now I’ve got a nice shiny new 1 TB drive to fill.

SoundGuy’s gift to himself came in, too. Unfortunately, it was damaged in shipping. Good thing he bought the shipping insurance! Now it’s just a waiting game for the replacement.

MiniMe’s playing in a soccer tournament this weekend. Unfortunately, I’ll probably miss today’s games, but I’ll be there tomorrow. Today I have to take LittleDude to his Cub Scout Pack meeting. This month, his pack is studying Native Americans, and the project at the meeting will be headbands. That should be cute. We also get to pick up our Cub Scout popcorn orders. SO not good for my diet!

And lastly, well, lets just say I saved my biggest news for last. After almost twelve weeks of waiting, I finally heard back on my submission.

Sorry, but we can’t offer you a contract at this time.

However, as far as rejections go, it was the best kind to get. Some in my RWA Chapter are even suggesting it’s not a rejection at all. Why? Because it was a long and personal letter; the editor took the time to tell me where she thought the problems with the story were.

It also included an invitation to revise and resubmit.

Since that letter, I’ve started loom knitting. Sounds strange and unrelated, but it really isn’t. Because the loom knitting, while keeping my hands busy (and making me look busy, to boot), is leaving my mind free to wander. And my mind has been wandering to my story. Thinking about the things that editor pointed out, trying to figure out how those things could be changed. What I could do to improve the story. One of the problems is solved. Two others — let’s just say I’m still knitting.

Stay tuned, because later today I’ll be posting the Saturday shot. Right now, though, I need to hop in the shower. Have a great weekend!
