Two Choices

by Lynn Daniels on Friday, October 31, 2008 at 7:26 am

Heather took her revenge and tagged me. It’s cool, though — I actually kind of like this one. You post two choices of your choosing. Coke or Pepsi. Cats or Dogs. Marble or granite. Whatever. Then, you post your choice and tag someone to post their two choices on their blog.

Since I’m so late to the gate on this one (Heather tagged me over a week ago), I won’t tag anybody in particular. If you’d like to do this one, consider yourself tagged.

I thought long and hard about this one. Considered and rejected a number of either/ors before settling on this one:

Mountains or Beach?

Small Counties RULE

Rock & Rule

Rock & Rule

Lately, our local news has been overrun with horror stories of early voting lines. Media outlets are posting polling locations and wait times, and people are complaining of 4-6 hour waits. All I could think was Damn! If the wait’s that long now, imagine what it’ll be on Election Day!

I finished up my shopping yesterday at noon, and figured I’d go and see what the lines looked like at my local polling place. As I’ve mentioned over and over, I live in a small rural county. Out here in the sticks, we only have one polling place for the whole county. I figured if the wait was under two hours, I’d go ahead and get it out of the way — one less thing to do later, right?

Blowin’ My Mind

Marked Trail

Marked Trail

I’ve had a lot of mind blowin’ lately. Could be my mental state. Could be the weather. Could also be that it’s just plain starting to go.

After my last post, we did a couple more days of hiking in different parks. We went to one that had a beautiful nature trail. A short nature trail. A well-marked nature trail. And still my daughter yelled, “We SUCK at following marked trails!” :sigh: Luckily, we caught that one early. Thank goodness for trails identified by color.

Note to Georgia State Parks: When the trail crosses a bridge, maybe your signage shouldn’t point to an entirely different trail!

Break Me

by Lynn Daniels on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 10:35 am

Lately, I’ve found it much easier to go about my life without turning on a computer. Sure, our desktop upstairs is running, and I use it to check the weather every morning, but beyond that — nothing. Nada. No forum visits. No blog posts. No tweets (except that one essentially saying in 45 words or less what I’m saying right now). I haven’t even been syncing my iPod.

It’s almost comical. Frankie sits right next to my spot on the couch, but he sits closed. With my label maker on top of him.

NaNo No No *urp*

by Lynn Daniels on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Nanowrimo.org fell victim to massive hard drive failure yesterday. Current visitors to the site and those looking to sign up are presently greeted by an informative page with news of the situation and an invitation to ogle the models in their store. The happy NaNo folks are posting repair updates via Twitter.

Is it possible I’m already experiencing withdrawals from the Dare thread?

Got Gas?

Got Gas?

Got Gas?

Things may be looking up gas-wise here in North Georgia. During today’s shopping trip, three of the six gas stations I passed had gas. Even better than that — NO LINES! We’re still paying more (by $0.30/gallon) than the national average, but I was actually able to fill up, so I call that a good day.

The local news is reporting suppliers not licensed in Georgia are now able to sell gasoline to stations here, and the pipeline supplying us is up. The gas in the pipeline will take 5-6 days to get here, but it’s a positive sign. As long as it’s true. I’m keeping in mind that when this first started, officials reported our shortage would only last 3-4 days. Here it is 3 weeks later and they’re giving us a new story.

Still, it’s good news after a couple weeks of not-so-good news.

More good news — I’m still playing the Grocery Game. Today I paid $61 on a $104 grocery bill, and I’m stocked for fabric softener and air freshener. Plus, one of our local drugstores is sending me a $10 gift card and a $16 check, and that’s after just 2 weeks of shopping.

Ooh, and the weather’s cooled again, so my windows are open. Love that!

Yup, it’s a pretty good day today. How’s your day?
