Book Buzz Tag
by Lynn Daniels on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 3:01 pm
The lovely Nadia tagged me before I could run away! I’m at a little bit of a disadvantage with this one, as I haven’t been reading as much or keeping up with what’s out there. But I’m going to do the best I can. I’m also working really hard to restrain myself from adding extra comments as I usually would. It’s that constant need to explain myself, I guess.
Anyway, here goes!
You Know it’s a Literary Novel When…
by Lynn Daniels on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 9:19 am
(shamelessly lifted from Lisa Kleypas’ keynote speech at the 2007 RWA National conference)
- …it has no plot.
- …the main character probably has no name.
- …the main character is probably dead.
- …the main relationship isn’t really a relationship, but a symbol for something else.
- …the ending is completely unsatisfying.
- …the book took six years to write.
- …the cover is beige with a motif of an empty swingset.
- …you use punctuation in interesting ways and you can make all the grammatical errors you want and the copy editor never gets to fix them because it’s all part of your ironic style.
- …there are sex scenes, but the woman’s orgasm is never described.
- …it seems bent on convincing us our problems will never really be resolved and everything is ambiguous and if you are happy or you think you will be happy someday you are lying to yourself.
Shoot for the Stop Sign

I’m still reading and highlighting Body Language by Julius Fast. It’s my reward for finally subbing IH.
That’s almost sick, isn’t it? My reward for finishing a book is research.
ANYHOO….I’m about halfway through — probably would’ve been done by now if I hadn’t stopped to read that Baby Blues book. My dilemma is what to do when I finish Body Language. I can finish editing BMO, since I was so recently in that editing frame of mind. Alternatively, I can get started on the SR rewrite (again!) and maybe finally put that baby to bed.
The Aftermath
by Lynn Daniels on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 8:30 am
Let’s review my past few days.
I submitted IH Friday and promptly wanted to hurl. Saturday and Sunday, MiniMe had a soccer tournament about a 45 minute drive away. Two games Saturday — they tied the first game, won the second. They had a third game on Sunday, but MiniMe woke up and promptly vomited (sympathy nausea?), so we stayed home.
She’s better now, by the way.
Edge of Darkness

One of my CPs, Tess Harrison, is celebrating Cobblestone Press’ release of her book Edge of Darkness.
Harry Potter … IH … Harry Potter … IH …

MiniMe’s soccer season’s already starting. No games yet, but she’s already having practices. And homework. She had soccer homework. She had to run a timed 1.5 miles before Monday’s practice. Of course, that meant we were driving around looking for a place to run on Monday.
Nothing like waiting until the last minute!

I just joined Shelfari to connect with other book lovers. Come see the books I love and see if we have any in common. Then pick my next book so I can keep on reading.

The Wrong Hero
by Lynn Daniels on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 9:58 am
Yesterday, I finally got around to watching last week’s episode of TNT’s Heartland starring Treat Williams. Anyone else watching this show? I’m still unsure about it — I’ve seen three episodes and I’m not entirely sure if I’ll keep watching.
Especially after last week’s episode.
I hate shows that kill kids. Babies in particular. My poor sappy heart (and it’s been well-established here that I am a major sap) just can’t take it. I’ve been known to yell things like You’d better not kill that child! at my television set. Often through tears. SoundGuy sees this as one of my more endearing traits. I just think it’s frustrating.
Is That All There is?

Some time ago, I got an old friend hooked on the Dark Hunters. After she’d gone all the way through the entire series, she came over one day and thanked me.
Sarcastically.
Huh?
