Blowin’ My Mind
by Lynn Daniels on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 9:15 am
I’ve had a lot of mind blowin’ lately. Could be my mental state. Could be the weather. Could also be that it’s just plain starting to go.After my last post, we did a couple more days of hiking in different parks. We went to one that had a beautiful nature trail. A short nature trail. A well-marked nature trail. And still my daughter yelled, “We SUCK at following marked trails!”
Luckily, we caught that one early. Thank goodness for trails identified by color.
Note to Georgia State Parks: When the trail crosses a bridge, maybe your signage shouldn’t point to an entirely different trail!

Return of the … I don’t know what
by Lynn Daniels on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 12:56 pm
So, I’m back from vacation. Actually got back a few days ago, but am still trying to re-integrate myself into my mundane everyday life here on the homefront. I was hoping to already be processing pictures, but I’m not the only one trying to re-integrate; SoundGuy still hasn’t pulled out the portable hard drive we stored all the pictures and video on. Until he does that I’m pictureless.
I see my scrobbler is having some trouble and kicking out error messages. I’ll be turning that off for now until I figure out what’s going on.
While I try to convince SoundGuy to bring my pictures out of the abyss, I wanted to share something with you. Last night (or was it the night before?) I caught an amazing show on History International (and no, I’m not talking about BBC’s Top Gear, although I love that show too). It was called Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed. I don’t know when it’s coming back on, but if you spot it, be sure to stop and watch.
It was an analysis of the Star Wars saga from what could be viewed as a literary standpoint; the incorporation of Roman and Greek mythology, the inclusion of stories from the Bible, and how it follows The Hero’s Journey. It talked about each of the characters and their own journeys, and discussed why we would still be talking about this series 100 years from now.
Seriously, it was a very interesting, enlightening, and informative show, and I highly recommend it to anyone, whether you’re a writer or not.
And with that, I’ll leave you for today. But keep an eye here for upcoming trip reports and photos!
A Barrel of Daisy-Pushing Fun

I think I’m in love, y’all (ooh — how Britney was that?).
Seriously, did anybody else watch the premiere of Pushing Daisies? My local newspaper called it weird; for me, it was the perfect amount of weirdness. Like a combination of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Wonderfalls with a bit of paranormal oddity thrown on top like chocolate Redi-Whip.
Satan’s Camaro is Stalking Me!

Hey all!
Sorry — no Saturday shot this week. I just didn’t have time to work one up. The good news is I’m continuing to make progress with my edits,
so my time hasn’t been a complete waste.
I did get to see Transformers tonight — SoundGuy and I took the kids. Great movie, it gets a definite thumbs up recommend from me. How could it not with this sweet little thing in there:
One Kid Two Kid Red Lens Blue Lens

You know what’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys? Making your late-sleeping offspring get up early on a summer morning.
ME: MiniMe! LittleDude! Rise and shine! It’s a beautiful morning!
THEM: *grumble grumble grouse grouse*
ME: (yanking the covers from their beds) C’mon! Get up! We’ve got lots to do!
THEM: *grumble grumble grouse grouse*
ME: Okay. I guess Daddy and I will go see Harry Potter by ourselves.
Suddenly two kids, eyes wide open, popped out of their beds and raced to get dressed.
The Wrong Hero

Yesterday, I finally got around to watching last week’s episode of TNT’s Heartland starring Treat Williams. Anyone else watching this show? I’m still unsure about it — I’ve seen three episodes and I’m not entirely sure if I’ll keep watching.
Especially after last week’s episode.
I hate shows that kill kids. Babies in particular. My poor sappy heart (and it’s been well-established here that I am a major sap) just can’t take it. I’ve been known to yell things like You’d better not kill that child! at my television set. Often through tears. SoundGuy sees this as one of my more endearing traits. I just think it’s frustrating.

I’ve got a new guilty pleasure. Somebody I look forward to seeing every week. But, come on — how can I not?

Wrong Kind of Housewife

I’ve been fighting it. Struggling against it. Determined to resist.
I finally gave in. Allowed myself to be pulled to the darkside.

Last night, SoundGuy and I watched the movie Invincible, based on the story of Philidelphia Eagles’ Vince Papale. If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you do. Even if you’re not into football flicks. The story’s heartwarming, the acting’s great, and the soundtrack’s outstanding.
Seriously — it’s a Disney movie that opens with a Jim Croce tune. Need I say more?
(Can ya tell I love Jim Croce?)
Queen of Obscure Television Shows

Good mail day yesterday — my DVD set of the first and only season of Wonderfalls arrived. I loved that show. I’ve been watching since it arrived, and now I’m watching the commentaries.
I told SoundGuy I’d like to become the Queen of Obscure Television Shows. Between Wonderfalls and Freaks and Geeks, I just might be on my way.
