Death Spiral (Dramatic, Much?)

by Lynn Daniels on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 4:11 pm

For the past few days, I’ve been trying to find a topic to blog about. I considered and discarded my rant over my disenchantment with American Idol (the show redeemed itself somewhat when David Cook took the title). I rejected a lament over the strange funk SoundGuy says I go into once a month — especially since over the past couple months I’ve realized it’s true. I decided against a number of other topics, all too depressing to post.

Why?

Who Stole My Muse?

by Lynn Daniels on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 10:54 am

One of the hardest things to do is to write after the muse has left. And I’m not just talking books; blogs count, too. How do you write a daily blog when you can think of nothing to write about?

All week, as I ran through my daily chores and errands, my mind’s been whirling. Could I blog this? Would this be interesting enough to publish online? I’m sure you can deduce the answer to those questions based on the number of posts since last Saturday’s Saturday Shot.

Is That a Moose in the Road?

by Lynn Daniels on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 10:21 am

I got to talk to my father last weekend. He lives overseas, and we don’t talk as often as we should. Probably has something to do with the fact that we’re cut from the same cloth and both equally stubborn.

Anyway, he called to see how we’re doing in the aftermath of the accident. At some point in the conversation, he became horrified to learn I had never watched Northern Exposure. I had to explain that, heck, I didn’t even start watching Everybody Loves Raymond until the show was syndicated. That didn’t seem to sway him.

Guess what arrived on my doorstep yesterday. The full series DVD set of Northern Exposure. Of course, I had to start watching immediately. What fun! I’m almost through season 1.

Good, But Not Holy

:writing: I’m writing again! I’m writing again! :writing:

Well, kinda.

First, let me say that not counting rewrite stuff I did for IH, it’s been a long while since I’ve written anything new. I’d been editing IH for a couple months, polishing that baby until it shined. And I made the decision to focus solely on that edit. So the writing was pushed to the side.

But after I sent IH off and took some time off to read a research book, I declared the day before yesterday my Return to Writing Day.

The Aftermath

by Lynn Daniels on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 8:30 am

Let’s review my past few days.

I submitted IH Friday and promptly wanted to hurl. Saturday and Sunday, MiniMe had a soccer tournament about a 45 minute drive away. Two games Saturday — they tied the first game, won the second. They had a third game on Sunday, but MiniMe woke up and promptly vomited (sympathy nausea?), so we stayed home.

She’s better now, by the way.

Urg

by Lynn Daniels on Friday, August 24, 2007 at 7:50 am

It happened a bit later than I’d originally intended, but late last night, I finally managed to submit IH.

You know how you usually have to experience something in order to really understand it? I finally understand that sick-to-the-stomach feeling many writers talk about after they’ve submitted.

After a full night’s sleep, I still feel like hurling all over the place.

Any advice?

So the Saying Goes

by Lynn Daniels on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 8:24 am

IH didn’t get submitted yesterday. I’m hoping to get it sent today. I’ll take the blame for the delay, but it really wasn’t all my fault. Some of it, I blame on our mailman.

Well, technically, mailperson.

If she hadn’t left two particular letters in my mailbox, I wouldn’t have been totally wigged and sick to my stomach all day. And if I hadn’t been wigged and sick, I’d have been able to finish that read-thru, assemble my submission package, and get it sent. Woulda, shoulda, coulda … fact is I was wigged and sick, and couldn’t make heads or tails of anything.

Classics Never Die

by Lynn Daniels on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 8:29 am

I’m down to the wire. Today’s the day I wanted to submit IH, and I still have reading to do. So, instead of typing up a well thought-out post, I’m reading my ms.

In the meantime, I leave you this video for your entertainment. I’d just read a line in IH about an Abbott and Costello routine, and it reminded me of this oldie but goodie. Enjoy it, and I’ll catch up with you tomorrow.

Ever Seen a Haka Dance?

by Lynn Daniels on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 2:03 pm

So the gala’s done. It was a lovely event, and much larger than I expected it to be. It was held at the Georgia World Congress Center, and I read they were expecting approximately 1,400 people at $175 per ticket. I had the opportunity to stand above the event early on (the front of house mix point was in a balcony), and that number looked like a real possibility.

I’ll have to dig out my program for exact names, but during the night we were entertained by two separate R&B singers (I learned later there was a bit of pre-show drama with one of them), a cirque troupe out of Orlando (people are not supposed to bend like that!), and toward the end of the night, we were treated to a native New Zealand Haka performed by a bunch of bare-chested men.

One Step Closer

by Lynn Daniels on Friday, August 17, 2007 at 8:48 am

Edits are finally done — I completed my last one at 12:51am. If I weren’t so damned tired, I’d be happy butt wiggling all over the place.

Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to do anything today. As soon as I finish the post, I’m off to start getting ready for this evening.

Tomorrow, however, tomorrow is another day.
